
Anta
Created by the law of the September 19 of 1839. Its territory extends between the Jaquijahuana pampas, the snow-covered summit Salkantay and the Apurimac river, it has great wealth in mineral resources like marble, kaolin and copper. Its capital, the city of Anta, is at 3.337 meters above sea level.
The province has an extension of 1.876,12 km ² and one population of 61,508 inhabitants (estimation to year 2000), distributed in 9 districts: Anta, Ancahuasi, Cachimayo, Chinchaypujio, Huarocondo, Limatambo, Mollepata, Pucyura and Zurite.
In the jurisdiction of the province there are constructions like Tarhuasi (district of Limatambo), with the rest of an imposing Tambo or inn of rest of the incas time, constructed in granite rock by the Pachacutec Inca. The Pampas of Anta or Jaquijahuana are famous for being the site in where La Gasca, on April 9 of 1548, defeated Gonzalo Pizarro, when this one revolted against Spanish crown.
