Agriculture
In Cusco land, the characteristics vary according to the climate and altitude. The fertile lands are concentrated mainly in the valley of Urubamba, with 82% of cultivated grounds, and in the valley Apurímac, with 17%.
Agriculture is an important activity, with more than 125 thousand hectares cultivated. These crops are divided according to the regions, that determine ground conditions and the climate; In this way, potatoes, corn, barley, wheat, olluco and quinua are produce in the Andean zone; whereas in the tempered valley of Urubamba, specially in the Sacred Valley, where giant white corn is cultivated, wich is very appreciated by its flavor and the size of its grains. There is also a good variety of fruit trees like: apples, pears, aguaymanto, citruses and strawberries. In the tropical valleys there are produced: cacao, coffee, coca, and citruses.
Livestock
Livestock is an extensive activity in the big punas covered with grasses. Farmers raise: llamas, alpacas, bovine, ovine and pig. The milky products industry is also important, basically the one of cheeses.
Fishinfg
Fishing activity is mainly crafted in lakes and rivers, and its most important goal is the subsistence.
Recently there are being created fish farms for the servant of trouts.
